MUM LEFT TO STAND & DELIVER IN THE LOO
Baby Alexa-Jay has bathroom birthplace
A STARTLED mum has told how she gave birth standing up in her bathroom – hours after being advised to go home from hospital.
Midwives had told Kimberley Irvine her baby was unlikely to arrive as she was only 3cm dilated so the 24-year-old headed home with husband Dean.
But baby Alexa-Jay arrived shortly after she returned to her home in Hamilton when her labour progressed “incredibly quickly”.
Kimberley said: “I was in bed and heard a popping sound. I waddled to the bathroom as my waters had broken.
“The contractions were really frequent and I knew I didn’t have time to go back to hospital. Dean called 999 and the paramedics arrived six minutes later – they were great.
“If Dean had to deliver the baby, he would have passed out. One of the paramedics took a picture with me and the baby, as it was their first delivery.
“Although it was a bit of a shock for everyone in the family, they were all delighted. I have three other children – Dean Junior, six, Conor Joseph, two, and one-year-old Tillie-Jad – so I know when you’re in labour.
“You never know how things will progress and how fast things will happen. But Alexa-Jay and I were then taken to Wishaw General Hospital to get checked over and I was allowed back home.”
Alexa-Jay weighed in at 5lbs 15ozs.
