A DANGER driver who killed a tourist in a high-speed crash faces being struck off as a care worker.

Jordan Kenvyn, 26, ploughed into 61-year-old American Barbara D’Amato’s hire car while on the wrong side of the road.

He will appear today before the Scottish Social Services Council, who will decide if he is fit to remain a carer.

Mum-of-two Barbara loved Scotland and wanted to retire here.

She was on holiday with friend Colette Ralph and her Labrador Luna when Kenvyn killed her on January 16, 2014, on the A702 near Elvanfoot, Lanarkshire.

Colette suffered injuries to her abdomen in the crash shortly after the two friends left a hotel.

Kenvyn denied causing death by dangerous driving but a jury at the High Court in Edinburgh took just 90 minutes to convict him.

He wasn’t paying attention when he hit Barbara’s Fiat and was driving his Renault Clio at speed on the wrong side of the road. But despite the tragedy he caused, Kenvyn was spared jail.

A judge noted his good work record and “insurmountable” guilt and gave him a three-year community payback order with 300 hours’ unpaid work.

Kenvyn was also banned from driving for five years.

He is a support worker with Voyage Limited in Dumfries, helping to care for people with significant mental disorders and learning difficulties. He has done the job for more than six years.

The Council will decide whether his fitness to practise is impaired because of his crime.

Kenvyn also faces a charge of failing to tell care watchdogs about the criminal case between March 18, 2015, and April 28 last year.
