‘Danger to women’ thug gets locked up

- ALASTAIR McNEILL

A THUG who hit a woman holding a baby has been jailed for 11 months and branded a danger to females.

A sheriff told Ross Quigley, 25, he had shown no remorse for the attack, which another child saw.

Personal trainer Quigley denied attacking the woman at an address in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, on November 18 last year but was found guilty earlier this month.

The victim suffered a bruised face and neck and swollen face and ear and had to go to hospital.

Hamilton sheriff Allan McKay sentenced Quigley after a social work report.

He told him: “You are a man who is dangerous to females. You made no attempt in this report to apologise and did not show any understanding about the damage your conduct might have done.

“The assault on the female – who had in her arms an infant child in sight and hearing of another child – was such that she was hospitalised.

“You described that in the report as a ‘scuffle’.”

The sheriff gave Quigley, of Hamilton, eight months for the assault and three months for two counts of threatening behaviour – one towards a relative of the victim the day before the attack and another on the day of the assault.

He got a concurrent three months for driving while banned.

Quigley’s victim told our sister title the Hamilton Advertiser: “I don’t think the sentence was long enough but I was happy with the conviction. It’s given me closure.

“If women are attacked, they need to speak out.”
