CELTIC boss Brendan Rodgers has given Scott Brown his blessing to play for Scotland against England in June.

Record Sport exclusively revealed earlier this week the Hoops captain would first have heart-to-heart talks with Rodgers about lining up against the Auld Enemy in the crucial World Cup qualifier at Hampden.

The 31-year-old midfielder retired from

From Back Page international duty last year but answered an SOS from Scotland boss Gordon Strachan to face England in November and returned again for the 1-0 win over Slovenia.

Now the Celtic boss has given his skipper the thumbs up to lead his country out for the Group F showdown – despite the player’s gruelling end-of-season schedule.

Rodgers said: “If he wants to play in the game absolutely fine, we’ll find a solution. He’s a really important player for the spirit of the squad. I have to think about Celtic as well.”

Rodgers’s approval means Brown will miss out on the six-week break he enjoyed last summer with the game against the Three Lions only 10 days before his club return for pre-season training.

The extended break coincided with one of his best seasons in green and white and Rodgers reckons his decision to return to the national team demonstrates the character of Brown.

He added: “There is a genuine love for playing for Scotland. He retired but has a loyalty to Gordon.

“It’s totally natural when he saw Gordon maybe not having a great time earlier in the campaign.”

Brown is set to be cleared by FIFA to face England after the governing body revealed they have not opened disciplinary procedures against the midfielder.

There were fears Brown could be dealt after being accused by the Slovenians of a stamp on Jasmin Kurtic.

But a FIFA spokesperson said: “No disciplinary proceedings are being conducted.”
