STAGGIES ON A RUN

- ALASDAIR FRASER sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

LIAM BOYCE believes Ross County are ready to go on a winning run at a vital time in the season.

The striker reckons his team answered their critics by defeating Dundee on Tuesday night – a result that has the Staggies six points above bottom place and four from the play-off spot.

The 2-1 victory over the Dens men – secured by Boyce’s 16th goal of the season from a late penalty – was only the second win in 2017 for the Dingwall side and just the fourth at home all season.

And Boyce is sure the last seven matches will bring a sequence of positive results so far lacking in the season.

He said: “It’s a massive win for us. When you’re on a bad run of games you’ll take a win any way it comes.

“Thankfully we managed to see it through until the end and we got a penalty and I stuck it away.

“When I stepped up I knew it was close to the end and I heard one of the Dundee players asking the referee how long was left. He said two minutes, so I knew the penalty was going to decide the game.

“It wasn’t pretty but it doesn’t really matter what way we get points on board at this time of the season. We just want to get away from the bottom and into a comfortable position.

“That three points is a good start but we’ll be looking to Saturday, and the trip to play Hamilton, and trying to push on.

“We want to go on a good run now. We haven’t been on a good run recently but last year and the year before we went on good runs of wins.

“We want to get one of them every year. We haven’t had one so far this season so we’ll try to do it now.”
