Nats still obsess over the headlines
IN FUTURE years, psychologists may study the phenomenon of Scottish Nationalists’ never-ending obsession with the BBC.
When not marching on the Beeb’s Glasgow HQ over imagined instances of “bias”, they’re droning on about the need for a “Scottish Six”.
For readers with actual lives I should explain, this is a theoretical and longdebated Scottish programme that would replace UK-wide news.
Nationalists hope it would dilute Scots’ sense of Britishness. Unionists fear the same.
After decades of controversy, a happy solution seemed to have been found in February when BBC directorgeneral Tony Hall announced a whole new Scottish TV channel will launch in autumn next year.
The £30million digital production will include a Scottish news hour at 9pm, meaning viewers could watch it or the UK-wide 6pm news or both.
But it seems not even this massive investment is enough for some Nationalists.
It emerged yesterday that Westminster’s SNP-led Scottish Affairs Committee are to hold an in-depth inquiry into why a traditional Scottish Six was blocked as part of the plans.
Committee chair Pete Wishart, whose primary role in the SNP is to make Angus MacNeil look intelligent by comparison, says they want to “talk it through” with BBC executives.
Good to hear Scottish MPs don’t have any bigger problems to worry about.
I WAS glued to the live stream of Nicola Sturgeon’s appearance at the Women In The World conference in New York yesterday.
Nothing to do with the First Minister being on just before Hollywood movie star Scarlett Johansson, I promise...
