CHILD RAPIST JAILED FOR 10 YEARS Victim’s family want McGregor to serve every day ‘uncomfortably’
A PREDATORY child rapist should be treated like Scotland’s most infamous sex killers, a relative of one of his young victims said yesterday.
Robert McGregor filmed himself raping three boys – aged three, six and 12 – then shared the video with other paedophiles.
He was jailed for 10 years at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday and will be supervised for five more.
The monster stared into the faces of his victims’ relatives as he was led from court amid cries of: “Animal.”
Six months ago, the Record revealed McGregor’s face after one family feared his crimes had crept below the radar.
Last night, the same family member said: “No sentence would be long enough for us but at least he’ll be on the sex offenders’ register for life so he’s monitored until he’s dead.
“I want him to serve every day of his sentence – but uncomfortably like Peter Tobin, William Beggs or Robert Black.
“I know he hasn’t murdered like them but I want McGregor to be known as the beast he is.”
McGregor, 36, abused children in the Highlands for 13 years, starting in 2001.
The relative said the delivery driver duped families into trusting him then took the boys on trips or to his home. They said: “It all just seemed very, very normal, like he was just helping.”
But then he raped the boys. The relative added: “He was definitely grooming other children – and it’s been going on for years.”
McGregor was caught after the National Online Child Abuse Prevention Agency learned he had been downloading images of child sex.
Police raided his home in Inverness. They found more than 2000 indecent photos and 899 videos – three of them of McGregor raping the boys.
The rape videos showed no faces but one victim bravely came forward and the others’ identities emerged.
McGregor, who had been on bail, was charged with the rapes and remanded in custody.
Detective Inspector Mark Lambley, of the National Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: “A case this harrowing is rarely seen in Scotland and will understandably send shockwaves through communities.
“It’s hoped, however, that the sentence sends out a clear message that Police Scotland will robustly and sensitively investigate all reports of sexual abuse – regardless of when the abuse took place.”
McGregor admitted three charges of raping boys and one of sexually assaulting a child.
He also admitted making indecent photos of children, some just a year old, and distributing indecent photos.
Jailing McGregor, Lady Carmichael said: “Your sexual offending is of the most serious and appalling nature.”
