GARY ANDERSON was left cursing a horror show on the doubles as he slumped to a 7-3 defeat to Adrian Lewis.

The Scot missed 18 checkout chances in their Betway Premier League clash in Dublin last night.

It means Lewis is now level on points with Anderson in fifth spot as the race for the top four places gets even closer.

Anderson said: “I just couldn’t find my range. I had so many chances, it’s hugely frustrating when you have nights like that.

“Tops just wasn’t working for me. It was always going to be tricky playing Adrian two weeks on the trot. I said he would come out all guns blazing and he did.

“You can’t give a world-class player like Adie chances. He had a good ProTour weekend and came here on great form and it showed.”

Lewis was delighted and said: “I couldn’t afford to lose this one. It’s a big win for me, I’m over the moon.”

Lewis took the opening leg but

CRAIG SWAN

RACE 1 (300m) Anderson made a hash of finishing the second, missing six times before finally grabbing double one to level it up. It was a sign of things to come.

It was nip and tuck all the way until the sixth leg which Lewis took against the throw. Again Anderson missed four darts to take the leg and Jackpot pounced to go 4-2 up.

From then on it was almost all Lewis. More missed doubles cost Anderson and double eight gave Jackpot a three-leg cushion. The Scot narrowed the gap to 5-3 but Lewis wrapped up a 7-3 win.

Peter Wright came from 6-3 down against Dave Chisnall to grab a point and keep himself ahead of the pack in the race for the top four.

Snakebite looked set to lose as SHAWFIELD DOGS 8PM RACE 5 (480m) Chizzy put on his best performance of the campaign. However, Wright kept his cool to grab a vital 6-6 draw and stay second.

Phil Taylor overtook his old foe Raymond van Barneveld in the table with a classy 7-3 win.

The Power roared into a 4-1 lead but Barney got it down to just one leg before Taylor won the last three.

Michael van Gerwen retained his place at the top of the league with a 7-5 win over James Wade in a sensational match.

MVG produced an average of 113.62 to come from behind to beat Wade who himself delivered 111.82 per three darts.

The Dutchman wrapped it up with a cracking 138 finish.
