KRIS HUNTER is hoping a return to his spiritual home will provide the setting for a special birthday celebration today as his Formartine side square up to cup final favourites Cove Rangers.
Fraserburgh’s Bellslea Park – where the Formartine boss served as a player for almost a decade – will be backdrop for the Highland League Cup showdown.
Formartine have slipped out of the league title race but Hunter, who turns 43 today, said: “It would be all the more special to win the cup at Bellslea. If it’s a good day for the team it will be quite a day for me all round.
“I’d a good career there as a player and served as manager. Fraserburgh don’t have a game so hopefully a few locals can come out and support us.”
Cove boss John Sheran believes his players have the big-game mentality to win.
He said: “It will be a tough game against good players, an exciting, attacking game.
“We’ve had to go to the likes of Brora and win, so these have been difficult games where the players have proven themselves. We need to do it again.”
