Scrapping Saints duo to pay for fans’ buses

- ALAN MARSHALL sport@dailyrecord.co.uk

ST JOHNSTONE sinners Richard Foster and Danny Swanson have started their road to redemption by paying for buses to take fans to games.

The Perth club have fined the duo four weeks’ wages for the fight that earned both players red cards in last week’s 1-0 defeat at Hamilton. Other than sacking

the players, that was the biggest punishment open to the club.

Part of the fines will be put towards laying on buses for punters to travel to away games at the request of Swanson and Foster.

A Saints statement read: “Foster and Swanson fully accept they are ambassadors for the club and role models for young fans everywhere.

“They accept their conduct fell far below that required of them as professional football players with St Johnstone and they brought the club into disrepute. The sanctions imposed upon them – a fine of four weeks’ wages – were the most severe, short of summary dismissal.

“The players have accepted the sanctions without question and wish to apologise unreservedly.

“Both players expressed a desire for a proportion of the fines to be utilised for free bus travel for supporters to away matches.”

Swanson and Foster will serve the final game of their two-match ban at Inverness today but could be back in the squad to face Aberdeen next week.
