VOTERS in Fochabers Lhanbryde will elect three councillors from eight candidates on May 4.

Another hopeful in the ward is suspended Scottish Labour councillor Sean Morton, who is facing charges relating to indecent images of children.

The 35-year-old, who is on bail and has vowed to clear his name, is seeking re-election despite being suspended by his party.

Morton made no plea or declaration when he appeared in private at Elgin Sheriff Court last Christmas Eve.

One charge relates to taking, permitting to be taken or making indecent images of a child.

A second concerns possession of such photos, while a third relates to “distributing or showing” pictures.

The final charge alleges Morton was in possession of “extreme pornography”.

Morton said: “I don’t know what this is based on and I will fight these allegations with everything I have.

“I will go on fighting for the people I represent as a councillor and will fight to win again in May.”

The Crown Office confirmed on Friday that the case against Morton remained live, although no further court dates were scheduled as yet.

Morton, who has also stood in Holyrood and Westminster elections, was part of the Labour delegation – including Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale – who jetted to the US to support Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential bid last year.

His mum Louise, 54, posted snaps of her son posing with Dugdale and Clinton.
