Medic exam liar is ‘let off’
AMBULANCE workers have accused bosses of leniency towards an employee who lied about passing a paramedic exam.
Sources say the staff member, who works at the Hamilton ambulance station, was let off with a “rap on the knuckles”.
They said he failed the exam in September and would soon get the chance to resit it.
The source added: “The educator who supervised his test told him he’d failed. But he simply asked another educator, who must have thought he’d passed, to put him forward for his in-hospital training.
“That was arranged and he would have been trusted to carry out intubation and cannulation procedures.
“It took weeks before a boss said they hadn’t had anything through confirming his pass. The employee claimed his educator told him his test was to be re-marked and he would get a pass.
“But the educator confirmed he’d failed.
“Everyone was waiting for pandemonium to be let loose. Instead, he got his knuckles rapped.”
The employee told the Record it “wasn’t true” that he lied about the exam.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We have a robust process in place to ensure that student paramedics receive an appropriate level of supervision.
“We have reviewed a situation involving a member of staff.
“We are completely satisfied this member of staff has not practiced paramedic skills unsupervised at any time.”
