A MAN claims his fiancee bust his nose with a punch when he tried to break up with her.

Callum Vause, 28, from Kilmarnock, said Laura Gemmell, who works as a sheriff clerk depute at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, had been “angry and aggressive” after he had tried to end their relationship.

Mum-of-one Gemmell, 27, appeared on trial yesterday accused of assaulting Callum. She denies punching him on the head as well as behaving in a threatening and abusive manner in November 2015.

He denied claims that, before the incident, Gemmell had accused him of having an affair with Kimberly Brady, a woman who was his co-worker and whom he is now in a relationship with.

Callum said: “We were trying to sort our relationship and I’d falsely been told Laura was pregnant.

“On the way to our house, she punched the display panel in the car.

“Then she struck me in the face with a closed fist and burst my nose.”

But Louise Arrol, defending, put it to Callum he’d hurt his nose after an incident in the car when he he had been driving “erratically”.

She asked him if her client may have “lashed out” when he put his arm to her neck to restrain her as she tried to steady the wheel, adding: “If anything happened to your nose, it happened as she was trying to get you away from her.”

Callum refuted the claims. The trial at Paisley Sheriff Court has been adjourned until July.
