WE WON’T BE OUTFOXED

Torres vows Atletico are too clued up to underestimate ‘great’ Leicester side

- ATLETICO v LEICESTER

FERNANDO TORRES has warned Atletico Madrid to respect Leicester’s “great team” tonight. The Foxes, 11th in the Premier League after a tough title defence, surprised La Liga outfit Sevilla in the last 16. And former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Torres, who has seven goals for Atletico this season, said: “Too many teams have underestimated Leicester – but we are not going to be one of them. “Leicester are not lucky, they did not win the Premier League because they were lucky, they are not the last English team in the competition because they are lucky.

“Everything they have achieved is because they are a great team who have worked hard. Their success is deserved.

“We don’t consider ourselves favourites. We are looking ahead to two very tough games against the champions of England.”

City overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Sevilla to set-up the quarter-final with Atletico, who were Champions League runners-up last season.

Torres, 33, added: “We are used to playing at this stage and I hope we can use that to our advantage. They are not going to be easy games and hopefully experience will give us the edge.”

But Craig Shakespeare insisted the Foxes aren’t about to roll over and said: “We’re there to compete and not to make the numbers up. These players deserve this opportunity and we aim to keep that going.”

Shakespeare will warn his side against collecting bookings with Robert Huth, Wilfred Ndidi, Islam Slimani and Jamie Vardy all a caution away from missing next week’s second leg.

The Foxes boss – still without injured captain Wes Morgan – added: “We are well disciplined as a team but yes, the players will be reminded about their responsibilities and not to get stupid cards for things like encroaching.”
