Where were 40,000 who made a fuss about getting tickets for League Cup Final in 2014?

From Back Page the big games. And he insisted they should be ashamed at heading for the exits when Gers struck late on at the weekend.

Tosh was in the stands during the 3-0 win for the Ibrox men, working for Red TV in front of a 19,332 crowd – around 1,000 short of capacity.

The 43-year-old – who spent two seasons with Aberdeen until 2005 – said: “If you can’t sell out Pittodrie for a game in which the Dons have the chance to really rub Rangers’ noses in it, you never will.

“I couldn’t believe it. Where were the rest of the 40,000 who made such a fuss about getting tickets for the League Cup Final in 2014?

“I’ve also been at matches at Pittodrie this season where the crowd was less than 11,000.

“That’s not good enough for a side that have done as well as Aberdeen so far this season.

“They had won 10 home games in a row before the weekend. If Hearts had done that you would have no chance of getting a ticket for Tynecastle if they were playing Rangers.

“Only Brendan Rodgers has a better record than Derek McInnes so far this season – and you would expect that with the resources at his disposal at Celtic.

“Derek and the directors would have a right to feel disappointed by the level of support they’re getting.” Rangers sunk Aberdeen with a late four-minute goal blitz kicked off by Kenny Miller with 11 minutes to go.

The home fans headed for the exits before the final whistle and Tosh admitted: “I couldn’t believe my eyes.

“I understand the fans being upset at seeing the Dons go two down. But we are talking about an Aberdeen side who have a habit of getting late goals.

“It was a stage of the game where they needed their fans to stick with them and maybe offer them a helping hand. Instead they rushed off home, to the pub, or whatever.

“The annoying thing is a lot of them will be ones who only go to Pittodrie for the bigger games.

“They will moan about that result and be reluctant to go back, unless it’s to another big game, or a cup final.

“The real fans were there right to the bitter end.

“That’s because they saw the game for what it was. It was one the Dons totally dominated for 79 minutes then lost because of five minutes of madness.”

Aberdeen are hurting after that late collapse and are licking their wounds at a mid-season training camp in St Andrews. But Andrew Considine insisted they are ready to shrug off the shock loss and kick-start their run-in. The defender is convinced the Dons can seal second spot – and end their Ibrox hoodoo. The Pittodrie men have to head to Glasgow after he split but they have not won in Govan for 21 years. Considine is eyeing Scottish Cup joy as well but he knows victory against Rangers at Ibrox will erase the pain of their late shocker in the Granite City. He said: “We are desperate to rid ourselves of that hoodoo down at Ibrox, which has lasted far too long now.

“That will be a big motivation when we go back down there. It would be great if we could seal second spot there, although any time would do for me.

“Getting to another cup final is also something we are desperate to do.

“We have to go into it with the attitude that our season starts now. It’s the only way to give us a chance of ending a campaign that we have put a lot of hard work into on a high note.

“The only positive we can take from the weekend is that we are still in a very strong position in the league.

“We have six to play to seal that second place and are hoping to make it to a cup final as well.

“It’s time for us to show we are capable of doing that.

“There will be enough people out there hoping we slip up and looking to knock us down.

“We’ve enough experience in our squad to come back strongly from the Rangers result. “There are loads of incentives for us to want

to do that.”
