You’ll be trigger happy with this action-movie style hit that’s impossible to put down
TOM CLANCY’S GHOST RECON WILDLANDS
GHOST Recon veterans may not love it but I think this is an absolute masterpiece.
Wildlands is a brilliant 90s action-movie of a game where the dumbed down mayhem takes precedence. The only thing missing is a Dolph Lundgren or a Jean Claude Van Damme to turn it into a modern-day take on some of the most absurd yet thoroughly entertaining films of the 1990s.
In a world full of tactical shooters, Wildlands gives us a chance to put the tactics book back in the box and play through a story line set in beautiful Bolivia.
With the country becoming highly unstable, the Santa Blanca are a Mexican drug cartel who gain so much power that Bolivia becomes a narco-state and the biggest producer of cocaine in the world.
The main boss of the Santa Blanca, El Sueño, is the ultimate target for the player, and if this guy is not straight out of a 90s movie then I’ll eat my bandana.
His whole head is covered in tatoos and he’s a similar size to Dolph Lund- gren in Rocky 4. The last straw comes when a bomb targets the US embassy in La Paz and DEA agent Ricky Sandoval is kidnapped, tortured and then killed by the Santa Blanca. From that, the US initiate Operation Kingslayer and the US Army despatch an elite special operations unit, “Ghosts”. You take control of the team and are led to some breathtaking parts of the country, with the sandbox world created by Ubisoft filled with vast and diverse with mountains, jungles and swamplands not to mention deserts and shanty towns and of course the cocaine factories. With a fully explorable open world, I found myself needlessly driving around taking in the whole spectacle on my dirt bike for the fun of it.
The story is a complete cliche from start to finish, just like any of the best 90s action films, and that’s what makes them so good.
I racked up hours of gameplay with the greatest of ease.
The action is just right in this classic, and whether you are driving around wiping out different bits of the cartel or doing some recon work to pick off enemies with your sniper rifle from a distance all while dodging the helicopters who are out looking for you, the game delivers in a big way.
Plus, with a chance to go back through the game in co-op mode for a second and third time, youll find it hard to play much else for ages.
