Ando all Wright ...but nine-dart Lewis is perfect
GARY ANDERSON last night slaughtered Peter Wright as Adrian Lewis stole the show with a stunning nine-darter in Liverpool.
The Musselburgh man cemented his position as Scotland’s No.1 with a thumping 7-2 win over Snakebite in the tartan tear-up to surge back into the play-off slots.
Anderson had drawn 6-6 with Dave Chisnall earlier in the evening before unleashing his brilliance against Wright.
The two-time champ reeled off six straight legs to pummel his potential-World Cup partner and reignite his bid to make next month’s shootout at London’s O2 and scoop a title hat-trick.
Anderson said: “I needed that win big time. I’ve not been hitting the target how I want for the past couple of weeks.
“Adrian punished me last week and I was a bit fortunate to pinch a draw against Chizzy.
“However, I knew this was the match I couldn’t afford to mess up.
“I was a bit sluggish early doors but I was happy with the way I played after that. I won. That and making London is all that matters.”
Anderson got an extra bonus on the night with Wright drawing 6-6 with Michael van Gerwen and play-off rival Phil Taylor slipping to a 7-5 loss to James Wade.
But it was Lewis who hogged the headlines as he landed his fifth televised nine-dart finish in a 7-4 win over Raymond van Barneveld.
The Stoke superstar put himself in line for a £15,000 bonus as he achieved perfection in the fourth leg of his victory. Lewis said: “It’s a great feeling.
“I’ve been threatening a nine-darter for the last couple of weeks and this time I was determined not to miss it.
“The nine-darter’s great but to get the win was important too.
“Even after I hit the nine-darter Ray was digging in and keeping me under pressure.
“It keeps me in the mix for the play-offs, I’ve won five games out of six and it’s brilliant.”
