Prem is placed on terror alert

Trump’s close generals have no diplomatic experience…

-

Yellow Sea Sea of Japan TODAY, April 15, is the most important public holiday in the North Korean calendar.

If the regime marked the occasion by testing a nuclear weapon or ballistic missile, it would serve as an important propaganda message from a very weak leader to his people.

It would also flout international law, even though the North Koreans claim they should be allowed to launch satellites for peaceful purposes. The rockets which would carry those satellites could also deliver nuclear warheads.

Some fear that Donald Trump would prefer a military response, although his aides continue to talk about economic sanctions. If he were to launch a pre-emptive strike against North Korea’s military sites, and the regime retaliated, what would America do then?

In the past, Washington has always decided the risks of military action are far too high. South Korean capital Seoul, with its 30million residents, is perilously close to the border with the North.

But with Trump in the White House, critics now fear what the US response to a North Korean provocation might now be.

Trump is surrounded by generals in key positions, and they have little diplomatic experience. If they were to choose a military option, it is hard to see how things would not escalate.

Britain would then have to decide how to get its citizens in the two Koreas out of danger.

The US has 35,000 troops on the Korean peninsula, and they would be in charge. They may even call on the UK for military support. ARMED police will take to the streets today with security at an “all time high” for English Premier League games.

The bomb attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus in Germany on Tuesday has prompted a series of extra measures.

All 20 top-flight English clubs have been given fresh advice on transport, particularly their routes to and from grounds.

Officers will carry out mirror checks under buses and bag searches at team hotels.

Dortmund player Marc Bartra needed surgery on a wrist injury after the bus blast.
