I’D LOVE CUP MEDAL TO GET JOB DON
NIALL McGINN was shown the door at Celtic by Neil Lennon as Aberdeen rode to the rescue to rejuvenate his career after a season-long loan at Brentford.
And the winger would love to use his influence to dump Hibs in next week’s Scottish Cup semi-final and thank the Dons for five years at Pittodrie. McGinn is leaving the Reds at the end of the season as he eyes up a move to the Championship south of the border and with second place in the Premiership all but sewn up, he’d love to take a cup winner’s medal with him.
McGinn and his team-mates will bid to cement runners-up spot against St Johnstone today and will then focus fully on hurting Lenny’s Hibees next week.
He said: “Joining Aberdeen restarted my career and the club helped massively as well with my international career.
“When I came to Aberdeen I started playing a lot of football for the first time since I left Derry City for Celtic in 2009.
“I’ve close to 70 goals for the club and chipped in with a lot of assists as well. I have won a few personal awards too.”
McGinn still feels the pain of being thumped by his ex-club in the Betfred Cup Final last November but added: “The main thing for the supporters is to get to another final.
“We want to go one step further and win the Cup. To win a Scottish Cup medal would be unbelievable.”
