To Ibrox but Caldo isn’t so sure

Waghorn: Give me chance to bury Celts misses

whoever gets the shirt for that game will give their all for the team.

“But of course the Celtic one is a big one and everyone wants to play in it so it could be in the back of the players’ minds. The main thing is we get the win and don’t let the good work from Pittodrie last weekend go to waste.”

Waghorn doesn’t want the win over the Reds to be a false start and is eyeing a flying finish to the season after closing the gap on English top flight – but still reckons the midfielder could move to Ibrox.

Caldo was in charge when the midfielder signed for the club nine years ago.

He said: “Aberdeen had a fantastic youth system and Jacko emerged at the same time as Fraser Fyvie.

“There was nothing bad Aberdeen to nine points in the race for second place.

The Englishman added: “How many of our remaining games do we need to win to finish second? Six! To be honest, we take it game by game and see how it goes.

“We have the big three post-split games at home so we’ll do our best and see where it takes us.

“The result last weekend was a big step in the right direction but Partick have a knack of nicking in the pair of them but towards the end of my tenure as boss I had to call them in and give them a ticking off for a couple of off-field scrapes.

“It was teenage stuff, part of the growing up process.

“Jacko was clever, strong and hardy and would kick his granny if it helped him results. They are a hard-working side who all know their jobs and are defensively solid.

“They were dangerous when we played them at Firhill and they’ve crept into top six so it will be difficult but we’re confident. The win at Pittodrie was a huge psychological boost.

“It was nice to get the win after a lot of criticism.

“Aberdeen kind of gave the game to us in the last five minutes. They started getting a bit sloppy on the ball, they were out of position and left us two v two at the back.

“We took full advantage and that’s the kind of result this late in win a game and now he has matured into a fine skipper at Aberdeen.

“I’ll be barred from entering Aberdeen for a couple of years for saying it but I still believe he could end up at Rangers.

“He’s ideal for them as he’s a winner and his aggression would be an the season that can put a bit of doubt their minds and it’s important we build on it.

“It’s up to the players now to have the right mindset. We’re playing for Rangers and have to win every game so we need a bit of belief and swagger.

“The win at Aberdeen was a big result but it’s just one victory and it’s what we do in the next game and the week after that.

“The manager has told us 1000 times we need to move on to the next match. All the boys know their roles and it’s important to follow up with a good performance against Partick Thistle.” asset for the side. He’s so good I maintain he could sign for a club in the English Premier League but it might take him a season or two before he was a regular.

“He must choose wisely because at the age of 25 he’s at a stage in his career where he must be playing regular first-team football.”
