Ross writes off season after op forces absence

ROSS McCORMACK admits a “freakish couple of weeks” have quashed his hopes of pulling on a Nottingham Forest jersey again this season.

The Scotland striker’s torrid season took a fresh twist after it emerged he hasn’t trained with his loan club for three weeks.

McCormack has been struggling with an Achilles injury while a three-hour operation to remove five cysts from his jaw has led him to effectively write off his campaign.

The former Rangers and Fulham striker has not featured for the Championship strugglers since their 2-2 draw with Derby on March 18 and now looks unlikely to add to his solitary goal for Forest this season.

McCormack, who arrived at the City Ground on loan from Aston Villa in January, said: “It has been a freakish couple of weeks in what has been an abnormal season for me.

“Forest have been good with me. I wanted to help them but the doctors have advised that I avoid contact in training and rest up.

“I’m not used to seasons where I don’t play a lot of games and get my goals. I desperately want to get back to that.

“Obviously the move to Villa didn’t start as planned but hopefully I can get myself sorted and come back in the summer nice and fresh.”

The £12million striker agreed a deadline-day switch after a spectacular fallout with Villa boss Steve Bruce who said one of McCormack’s excuses for missing training was the electric gates on his house were stuck.

Bruce was livid and exiled the Scotland frontman from training before shipping him out on loan to Forest.

McCormack confirmed the gates story was true but insisted he had never said he wouldn’t be at training but rather he would be running late.
