“I felt the benefits on a Saturday with Montrose as I was fitter, stronger and faster. I wouldn’t say it was a trial – it was just them helping out a local boy.”

Boyle grew up a fan of the Pittodrie club and said: “My mum is going to the game and I’ve got a lot of uncles who are Aberdeen fans. If we win they’ll be happy for me and if we lose they’ll still be happy as the Dons are through.”
