I’d love to party just like 2016

HIBS v ABERDEEN

- ANTHONY HAGGERTY

MARTIN BOYLE admits he went AWOL on a bender after Hibs ended their 114-year Scottish Cup drought last May – and admits he love a repeat performance.

It was a night that ended with him crashing on John McGinn’s floor beside 10 of his team-mates – a move that sparked panic among the players’ wives and girlfriends.

The 23-year-old Boyle admits he can’t get used to the legendary status afforded him down Leith way as he gets Hibs fans in restaurants offering to pay his tab or buy him drinks.

He said: “I think we all gave it a good go after the Final last year, me included, although we milked it a wee bit.

“Fans were taking days off work. It was carnage. The best time was when we all went to John McGinn’s house. There were 11 of us on his living room CUP CARNAGE Hibs star Martin Boyle floor, it was carnage. None of the boys went home to their missus or anything like that. I think mine is still wondering where I got to!

“I knew it was huge for the club but to actually do it and see the thousands who turned up on the Sunday was crazy.”

Now Boyle is planning the second mother of all knees-up should Hibs do the unthinkable and record back-toback Scottish Cup triumphs.

Boyle said: “To do it again would be unbelievable. The celebrations this time round? We’d probably just do it all again which would be brilliant.

“We have a tough task on Saturday but we really want to retain the trophy. Both teams are in good spirits as they have been on a good run and we’ve just won the league.

“We want to retain the trophy so we’re looking forward to it.”
