Fake police snared by cop worker

Car imposters facing jail

TWO men were caught impersonating cops after stopping a police civilian worker and demanding his driving licence.

Nile Rashid, 20, and Usman Sarfraz, 21, drove behind people flashing a blue light and their headlights at them.

One teenager and her passenger pulled over but then drove off with their doors locked when they saw four young males in what they believed was a police car.

But the matter was reported to police when Sarfraz demanded civilian worker James Boland show his driving licence and he handed over his Police Scotland ID badge.

The pair didn’t stop there and demanded a third man handed over his details. Both pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday to impersonating police officers between December 21 and 22 last year.

The court heard how Sarfraz asked Boland for his driving licence after pulling him over on Auldhouse Road, on Glasgow’s south side, on December 22.

After being told he had run a red light, Boland produced his licence and police ID. Upon seeing the badge, Sarfraz said all was in order and returned to the car, which made off at speed.

They were arrested the following day after more reports were made.

Sheriff John McCormick deferred sentence until next month after Sarfraz – an engineering student – has completed his second-year university exams.

He said: “You must be aware a custodial disposal is likely standing the gravity and number of incidents.”
