DAD’S THE WAY TO DO IT FOR COYNE

-

LINLITHGOW ROSE star Tommy Coyne already has bragging rights over his famous dad in the Scottish Junior Cup.

A winner’s medal in 2010 and a runners-up gong three years later mean he has twice gone where the old man couldn’t in his own junior career.

But striker Coyne has ex-Celtic and Ireland hitman Tommy Snr backing him all the way as he bids TODAY, 2.30PM to overcome Auchinleck Talbot away in the semi-final second leg this afternoon after a goalless first leg at Prestonfield.

The 31-goal striker, who has just signed a new contract with Rose taking him through to his testimonial year in 2019, said: “Games don’t come bigger than this – it’s the two biggest clubs in the juniors. We just have to hope we can take the chance when it comes along.

“Dad will be at Auchinleck. He enjoys junior football and was Shettleston and Bellshill boss but never got to a Junior Cup Final.

“That’s the one thing I’ve got over him – a Junior Cup winner’s medal. It’s nice to have dad’s support and I like to do well for him as well as myself.”

Rose are well off the pace in the East Region Premier Division but Coyne knows a fifth Junior Cup success can make up for that.

He said: “If someone told you at the start of the season you’d finish sixth in the league and win the Junior Cup you’d take that.”
