IT’S SAFETY FIRST FOR ROSS

- MICHAEL GANNON

JACK ROSS is relishing the relegation fight – but insists he won’t be satisfied with St Mirren hauling themselves to safety.

The great escape is on for the Paisley men after clawing their way outside the drop zone.

But they are just goal difference above second-bottom Dumbarton and three ahead of Ayr heading into today’s clash with Dundee United.

Buddies boss Ross admitted staying in the Championship would be a massive achievement but he won’t rest until they are a force again.

Ross said: “Given where we were, if we do manage to stay in the league then the players would deserve enormous credit.

“But will I be satisfied with it? No, because my ambitions for the club were far grander when I came here.

“I’ll only be satisfied when I’ve got the club to a place I feel it should be. That’s not diminishing the achievement if we do stay in the league because if we do a lot of people will deserve credit.”

Saints are unbeaten in their last seven games in the Championship but Ross has warned there can be no let up with three games to go.

He said: “Psychologically, it has been good for the players to rise out of the bottom positions.

“We knew we would have to win a lot of these fixtures and that is still the aim, starting at Tannadice.”
