SO HOPPY WITHPARS

DOBBIE COULD COME BACK TO HAUNT SONS

- DUNFERMLINE v FALKIRK QUEEN OF THE SOUTH v DUMBARTON

DAVID HOPKIRK was led astray by the promise of a career in England but now he’s determined to seal his place in Dunfermline first team.

The former Hamilton kid’s head was turned by agents who convinced him he’d hit the big time down south six years ago.

But a nightmare contract impasse with Accies saw him frozen out of the game before trials with Cardiff and West Brom came to nothing.

Now Hopkirk, 24, who bagged his second goal of the season against Dumbarton last week, is rebuilding his career with play-off hopefuls Pars.

Ahead of facing Falkirk today, he said: “I was playing in the SPL for Hamilton at 17. I should have stayed and worked hard but agents filled my head with rubbish.

“I was young and stupid. I got too big for my boots. You chase the bigger move when you realise how lucky you are. I just need a run of games to show what I can do.” STEPHEN DOBBIE would love to see old club Dumbarton survive this season – but only after he has pushed them closer to the relegation trapdoor today.

Queen of the South are out of the play-off hunt but Dobbie – who scored 10 goals on loan for the Sons just over a decade ago – wants to beat Dunfermline to fifth spot so he can’t afford to show any sympathy for his former side.

The 34-year-old said: “It would good to see Dumbarton get clear of relegation trouble but only after this game. We want to finish fifth so it’s all about trying to get the points.”
