I HAVE LET YOU DOWN

Pep admits his fate hangs in balance

PEP GUARDIOLA admits he has let down Manchester City’s owners.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was brought in last summer to make City champions at home and in Europe.

But they crashed out of the Champions League in the last 16 and their Premier League challenge fizzled out weeks ago, leaving the FA Cup as their last chance of silverware.

Manuel Pellegrini was sacked despite winning the Capital One Cup and reaching the Champions League semi-finals and Guardiola accepts owner Sheikh Mansour and chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak expect more.

The City boss, whose side face Arsenal tomorrow in the FA Cup semis, said: “I think they will not be happy.

“The expectation of the club is as high as possible, winning titles. And we are not able. We are not happy, I can completely understand.

“We could have done better in terms of the results and even in the way we played because we wanted to be in the race for the title and in the Champions League until the end. Despite the fact that I’m happy with what we’ve done, it’s still not enough.

“But they are my bosses. The chairman and the owner have to decide whatever they want.”

Guardiola feels his squad do not realise how good they are and says winning the FA Cup would make them believe.

“We want the FA Cup to put in my players’ heads how good they are,” said the City manager.

“I have said many times to them but they still don’t believe how good they are. They are fantastic players.”
