SILVER TO THE FOUR

- DAVID ANDERSON

JOSE MOURINHO admits he’d rather win the Europa League than finish in the top four of the Premier League.

United can leapfrog Manchester City into fourth if they win Thursday’s derby at the Etihad.

But Mourinho is ready to rest players because silverware is what counts.

The United boss said: “If we beat Celta Vigo we go to the Final and yes, it is important to us to play Champions League but this club wants trophies.

“We can’t give the club the Premier League. We have a 25 per cent chance to win the Europa League.

“I will rotate players again. It is better to go into a derby with one point difference than four.”

Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial started the game at Turf Moor with points to prove. And they made them to show United can score without Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United’s 28-goal top scorer may have kicked his last ball for the club, while fellow talisman Marcus Rashford was on the bench for a breather.

They were not missed as Rooney and Martial scored to leave Burnley in relegation trouble.

Martial opened the scoring with his 25th United goal to trigger an £8.5million payment to Monaco and take his September 2015 transfer fee to £44.8m.

But his strike could be worth four times as much as that instalment to United because qualifying for the Champions League could earn £40m.

Rooney showed he is not quite finished yet at United with his record 251st goal for the club.

And he hopes to keep his place for what could be his last Manchester derby.

Rooney said: “The lads who have come in have given the manager something to think about. It’s great to have options.”
