WE’LL FIRE BACK IN A TOP-SIX CHARGE

- GORDON PARKS

DYLAN McGEOUCH believes Hibs can shake off their Scottish Cup disappointment by claiming a top-six spot in the Premiership next season.

The Easter Road midfielder reckons his side had the wind in their sails against Aberdeen on Saturday before crashing out to a late deflected Dons winner.

But it was a cup semi-final exit he admits has only served to help ensure Hibs reclaim their status as one of the leading clubs in the country.

McGeouch said: “We know Hibs are a big club in Scotland and we want to be up there aiming for the top six.

“That’s what we’ll do after the summer. We’ll work away in pre-season and that will be the aim – to get up there and challenge.

“We have a good squad and a good manager. We are a big club and have to expect that for ourselves, that we get into the top half of the table. “I don’t want to look too far ahead. We haven’t even got the Championship trophy yet. But there’s a lot expected of us and that’s to do with the size of the club, the squad we have and the fans too. “Everyone will be expecting us to do well and we’ll be expecting that of ourselves.” McGeouch admits Hibs paid the price for conceding two cheap first-half goals at Hampden before getting their act together. A brilliant run ended with McGeouch playing a one-two with Grant Holt and firing home an equaliser that in the end proved futile. He added: “The deflection off Darren McGregor put us out. We’re disappointed but can take a lot from it as we showed a lot of character to get back in it.”
