Le Pen is still in with a chance

-

THE French presidential election will be fought out between centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen.

It comes after major opponents conceded defeat following the first-round ballot.

For the first time in modern French history, no candidate from the major parties will advance to the final vote.

On May 7, voters will choose between former investment banker and ex-economy minister Macron, and Le Pen, who has tried to scrub her National Front party of their history of racism and anti-Semitism.

At the election headquarters of the two front-runners, supporters cheered when the results of yesterday’s ballot emerged.

In Paris, protesters angry that Le Pen has advanced into the final vote scuffled with police.

They staged demos at Le Pen’s campaign events, angry at her anti-immigration policies.
