BIGMOUTH IS A TOTAL TRUMPET

- PAUL O’HARE and SALLY HIND reporters@dailyrecord.co.uk

A DONALD Trump impersonator was arrested after hitting the campaign trail in Scotland.

Andi McCann – axed as a Labour candidate in 2012 – wore a blond wig and the billionaire’s trademark Make America Great Again baseball cap as he toured polling stations on Thursday.

But the 38-year-old’s antics, which including using a megaphone to goad council election candidates in Kilmarnock, landed him in the back of a police van.

He then broadcast from the van on Facebook Live, saying officers had invited him in for a “quiet word” at Loanhead Primary School.

He said: “I’m not under arrest. I don’t know what’s happening.”

But the businessman, in the president’s trademark white shirt and red tie combo, was arrested and taken to the local police station.

Police confirmed he had been charged with causing “a disturbance” yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said: “He was briefly arrested and will be reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with the incident.”

Print shop owner McCann yesterday denied he had been charged and said he had simply been taken to a “secure location (Kilmarnock Police Office)”.

He wrote on Facebook: “I wasn’t charged with breach of the peace. Senior officers at Police Scotland HQ couldn’t find anything to charge me with. Dressing up as Donald Trump is not a crime in Scotland.

“Police Scotland were fantastic. Treated me with respect and we all had a laugh back at the station.

“I’d love to show you the selfies from the custody suite but don’t wanna get them in trouble.”

In 2012, the Kilmarnock businessman was ditched as a Labour candidate for sending what party chiefs said was “a series of highly abusive text messages and inappropriate emails”.

The earliest indication of the prank came when bald Andi put on a wig and posted a selfie on Facebook captioned: “My Trump mullet has arrived.”

He went on to post pictures and footage of him touring the local area.

When we phoned McCann yesterday, he denied being the Trump impersonator.
