MY MATES WILL GIVE THEM HELI

Malone’s fly move to nab the trophy

- GORDON PARKS g.parks@dailyrecord.co.uk

EDDIE MALONE has pledged to take his Stirling pals out on the town if they help Forfar claim the League Two title.

The Loons defender insists the beers will be on him if mates Sean Dickson and Ross McMillan put a spanner in the works of leaders Arbroath who travel to the Binos knowing a win will see them crowned champions.

A helicopter will deliver the trophy to the successful side and Malone admits his focus is on getting a result against Annan and hoping his former team-mates do them a favour.

He said: “I played with Sean and Ross at Stenhousmuir and I’ll be having a word with them but I would hope I wouldn’t need to do.

“They are all playing for their futures and they have their own incentives to win.

“If they get a result there’s no doubt I’ll be getting in touch with them and arrange to buy them a few beers in Edinburgh as a thank you.

“That would be some night out and they will be well rewarded so that’s a promise which I am making to them.”

Forfar trail Arbroath by one point after losing a lead at the summit last weekend which they’d held since the opening day of the season.

But Malone is adamant it can still swing back their way as it goes right down to the wire.

He said: “There is nothing in this league with regard to a huge difference in the teams, everyone is so evenly matched.

“Stirling are a great example of that, they won six games in a row and then went six games without winning a game.

“We then went 11 games unbeaten and then didn’t win for seven so it shows how tight the league is. There is still all to play for but we know Arbroath have the upper hand at the moment.

“We can only look after ourselves, we can’t afford to come off the pitch on Saturday having drawn the game and then discover Arbroath have lost at Stirling.

“That would be the worst-case scenario, we need to keep our end up and hope they do us a favour, a draw for Arbroath would suit us perfectly.”

Malone admits there is also a contingency plan in place if Arbroath are the side celebrating this afternoon.

He said: “If it doesn’t go our way then we need to make sure we still go up via the play-offs. It would give us a second bite at the cherry.

“We’ll dust ourselves down and get on with it but at the moment we are only thinking about getting a win over Annan and hopefully that will be enough for us.”
