‘Trump crazy.. outside realm of normal’
AXED FBI director James Comey allegedly told colleagues Donald Trump was “crazy” and “outside the realm of normal” after the president accused Barack Obama of wiretapping his phones.
The revelation came as Trump opened up a bitter war of words with the ousted intelligence boss, labelling him a “showboat” and “grandstander”.
Sources claim Comey was left “utterly dismayed” at the tweets posted by the billionaire in March in which he accused his predecessor of bugging his phones. Weeks later, the FBI boss publicly dismissed the allegations and said the Russians believed Trump was “hopeless”.
But matters came to a head when Comey refused to preview, for Trump’s aides, his testimony to a Senate panel over his handling of the probe into ex-Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. Trump considered his actions insubordination. The details came as the White House’s explanation of the director’s sacking began to unravel.
On Tuesday, Trump’s aides said Comey was fired on the advice of deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein. But sources have since claimed the president demanded a reason to be found to dismiss Comey.
Yesterday, acting FBI director Andrew McCabe also rubbished the president’s claims that “the rest of the FBI” had lost confidence in Comey.
