£67 mobile phone case brews a shot of espresso for caffeine addicts on the move
COFFEE addicts will soon be able to enjoy an espresso wherever they are – thanks to a clever smartphone case.
The Mokase is set to cost £67 and its Italian manufacturers claim it can hold and heat up a shot of coffee on demand.
Although just 1cm thick, the waterproof case can apparently accommodate a 25ml capsule of liquid coffee and all the necessary micro-machinery.
According to makers Smart K, the capsule can be heated to 60C within eight seconds.
They claim it all happens at the press of a button – and the espresso is then poured through an aluminium-silicone tube.
The coffee capsules stay fresh for three months and come in three flavours – classic, toasted and arabica.
Smart K said building the device into a phone case was logical, because people always
have their mobiles close to hand.
The company tried to raise money to develop the product on a crowdfunding website. More than £3500 was pledged before Kickstarter suspended the project, saying it did not meet their rules.
But Smart K co-founder Clemente Biondo insisted his firm cancelled the fundraising because they wanted to start production right away.
He said prototypes were ready and cases ordered online now would be delivered in September.
