THE MAN accused of murdering former Mr Scotland bodybuilder Michael O’Hanlon admitted: “I stabbed that p***k”,

He wasn’t in good state. I was speaking to him and keeping an eye on Steven Kirkwood FORBES COWAN

a court heard yesterday

Witness Fraser Reid said that Steven Kirkwood, 44, told him: “It all kicked off. I set about him. I’ve been fighting with that p***k Musky. I think I’ve killed him.”

Kirkwood denies murdering Michael – whose nickname was Musk – at HK Autotek in Stevenston, Ayrshire, on July 25 last year.

Mr Reid, 23, told prosecutor Richard Goddard that he was in the Muscle Junction shop in his home town of Paisley on July 25 when Kirkwood walked in. The shop is owned by Kirkwood’s stepson, Derek.

Mr Reid said that Kirkwood was “shaking, distressed and all going”.

He added: “He mentioned that he had been fighting with Musk. He gave Derek a cuddle and said, ‘I think I’ve killed him’.”

The High Court in Glasgow was told that Kirkwood asked for a set of clothes identical to the jeans, dark T-shirt and Timberland boots he was wearing, along with money.

Mr Goddard asked: “He said it all kicked off, said he had stabbed Musky, asked you for a change of clothing and asked his stepson Derek for money and said he thought he killed him, is that the truth?” Mr Reid replied: “Yes.” The witness, a former HGV driver, was then asked: “Did Mr Kirkwood say that the blade was in the car?” He replied: “Yes.”

Earlier, former world’s strongest man competitor Forbes Cowan, 53, said he had known Michael for 30 years. He told the court he was asked to go along with Michael to meet Kirkwood at AK Autotek on July 25. He described Kirkwood as “aggressive” and a fight broke out. It looked as if the pair were punching each other, Mr Cowan said, and Michael left the garage office first. As the witness looked in, he said he saw Kirkwood with a knife.

He was asked about Michael and replied: “He wasn’t in a good state. I was speaking to him and keeping an eye of Steven Kirkwood, who was still holding the knife.”

Mr Goddard asked: “Did Mr Kirkwood do anything to assist?” Mr Cowan replied: “Nothing. He just stood there with the knife.”

Under cross examination by defence QC Derek Ogg, Mr Cowan denied a suggestion that Michael had been armed with a pick axe handle.

Kirkwood also denies attempting to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of a knife. He has lodged a special defence of self-defence. The trial continues.
