I talked to Wato – he responded with a wonder strike

-

From Back Page having won 2-1 at Cappielow to set up a first-leg showdown with Falkirk on Tuesday.

McKinnon said: “Morton are a good side so it was a tricky tie and the icing on the cake was the overall performance from the lads.

“I had a chat with Wato at half-time to tell him to buck up his ideas and he responded with a wonderful strike.

“It was probably a strike Tannadice hasn’t seen in a long time.

“It’s another quick turnaround for Falkirk on Tuesday. They’ve done well again this season. But we’re at home and we’re in form again so we’re looking forward to it.

“We’ve got momentum which is important so we’ll see where it takes us. We could have won our last six or seven games but the important thing is we’re playing well and the lads look fresh and lively.”

Duffy reckoned the scoreline didn’t tell the whole story – but admitted United had the edge.

The Ton boss said: “It was similar to Tuesday in that in the first half we were outstanding.

“But United won the match comprehensively even though I felt the scoreline was harsh on us with the amount of effort we put in over the two games. I’m not saying we deserved to go through because Dundee United were clinical and had that firepower to see them through.

“They have quality in key areas and came up with the goods. We have to congratulate them and wish them well in the semi-final with Falkirk which will be neck and neck.”
