We have Gret expectations

- LOWLAND& MINORS

MATT HENNEY is backing his Gretna 2008 shock troops to stun Spartans and reach the Lowland League Cup Final.

Having seen off Stirling Uni after extra time, the Borderers’ boss is ready for the challenge of facing a team that finished third in the table and claimed wins in both league games against Gretna.

The winners will face a final against either Civil Service Strollers or BSC Glasgow and Henney said: “I hope the lads get rewarded as they’ve done really well.

“It would be great for the lads to pull it off and get into the final and have the chance of a bit of silverware to end the season.”

Dalbeattie manager Darren Kerr is also looking for silverware to end the season on a high.

Star go into the Southern Counties Challenge Cup Final against Queen of the South at Galabank.

Kerr said: “Star have lost the last three finals, including this cup, so we want to change that. There’s a lot to play for.

“The boys are all gunning for shirts for Saturday so it should be a big occasion. We’ll take a bus through and then back for the awards night at Islecroft.

“We’ll just have to match their workrate as they will be keen and very busy. We’ll have to be up for it because Queens have a lot of quality.”
