Jags win will be Perth shattering

- GAVIN BERRY

CHRIS ERSKINE is aiming to make it five wins in a row for Partick Thistle in Perth and reckons their McDiarmid Park record gives them a huge boost.

The Jags went two decades without a victory away to St Johnstone but have been on a roll there recently.

Now Erskine is targeting their first top-six win after a draw at Tynecastle and last week’s heartbreaking late defeat at home to Rangers.

The 30-year-old striker said: “We have a good record in Perth and won there twice already this season so want to make it three times.

“When you have a ground like that where you have a good record and good memories then it does help. We go there full of confidence.

“This is a game we feel we can win but we know we have to work for it. We are on the home stretch of the season and into the last three games. We don’t want the campaign to fizzle out.

“We don’t want the run-in to end up like pre-season games. We have fans coming out and paying good money and we want to put on a show.”

Thistle are four points behind fifth-placed Hearts and Erskine is convinced they can still catch the stuttering Jambos.

He said: “If we pick up the win and Hearts lose it gets us closer to them so that’s still open to us.

“We are still close enough that we have the chance and as long as there is that opportunity we will keep fighting for fifth.”
