Daz: I’ll sign off as Bairn by bridging gap to top

DAVID McCRACKEN is desperate to make leading Falkirk back into the big time his last act as a Bairns player.

The 35-year-old skipper won’t be playing for the club next season after being told no deal is on the table.

McCracken, who hasn’t featured since January, is considering hanging up his boots after four years at Falkirk but says he’s fit and ready to play his part in their Premiership play-off push.

Peter Houston’s side head to Dundee United tonight for their semi-final first leg and the ex-St Johnstone and Terrors man said: “As a player and captain promotion is what you want to be involved in. It would be amazing to get it done.

“When I signed for Falkirk my aim was to get back to the Premiership.

“In my mind it was either going to be with another team or getting Falkirk promoted.

“It’s now at the stage where it’s getting Falkirk promoted yet there’s a chance this could be my last season. There could be a change in my situation playing-wise.

“I’m talking to the club about a different role and know I won’t be a player next season.

“I’ve done my B Licence but I’m more focused on the fitness aspect and hopefully something can materialise in the strength and conditioning side of things.

“I knew that early in the campaign after speaking to the gaffer but to take the club there would still be a massive achievement.

“I had a problem with my knee but I’m fit and ready. I’ve been out of the team for a few months and that’s fair enough. A lot of people are asking about my fitness but the gaffer is maybe just looking ahead.

“I’ve been on the bench and it’s important I’m not grumbling. I’ve been trying to help the boys out and if I’m involved I will step up.”

McCracken reckons Falkirk will be fresh for tonight’s Tannadice clash while United faced two games against Morton last week.

And he added: “We’ve had a few days off to rest up and the coaching staff have been away watching the Dundee United and Morton games.”

● McCracken was speaking ahead of tonight’s Premiership play-off semi-final first leg, which is live on BT Sport 1.
