Davies: We’ll hand Caley a Highland pass

ANDREW DAVIES insists Ross County are united in a desire to see Highland rivals Inverness Caley Thistle stay in the top flight.

Defeat for the Dingwall hosts against Hamilton tonight would seal relegation for the team from 14 miles along the road.

It would also consign Caley to the league below their foes for the first time in their 23-year history.

Davies, completing his second season with Staggies, is a relative newcomer to Highland derbies but is already hooked – and desperate not to lose the clash.

The defender said: “There’s a rivalry there between the clubs but we want them in this league.

“It’s good for the area to have the derby, there are some good lads over there at Inverness, so we’ll do everything we possibly can to beat Hamilton. We don’t think about anything else but we want Caley Thistle in this league.

“I don’t wish to see anyone get relegated. It affects everyone, families and everything like that so, fingers crossed, we can get the job done and Caley Thistle can get a couple of big results as well.

“It’ll feel a bit strange if they do go down. This is only my second season here but I always look forward to those games. There’s a bit of banter around the town, which is good. Hopefully they can turn it around.

“We don’t really think about it too much though – we’re just trying to get a result for ourselves.

“We still have our own targets – we want to finish seventh, the highest we possibly can – and I’m confident we can get the job done.”
