A chosen few new recruits is Celts plan

- Craig Swan

CHRIS DAVIES has told Celtic fans to prepare for quality over quantity in the summer transfer window.

The Parkhead No.2 says continuity is key for the squad to hit the ground running in the Champions League qualifiers.

Brendan Rodgers has a wide range of targets but Davies is adamant arrivals won’t be flooding in.

He said: “We don’t want to make loads of signings. It’s knowing there are one or two quality signings who can be brought in to help us.

“We also recognise the players who have been here have developed into even better players and are vital to us.

“We want to keep them and keep that continuity. As all teams will say, year on year we want to improve, but we want to develop players as well.

“You’ve got to look after your own, then yes, with good recruitment can you bring in others.

“Lee Congerton is our head of recruitment so he leads that department.

“It’s important the manager and all the staff are always thinking about recruitment. It’s not just ramped up close to a window when you need to find a player.”

Davies hopes the new signings will be made for the start of pre-season but added: “There’s a reality that it’s not always ideal.

“Of course we’d like to get people in as quickly as we can to get the squad all working together.

“We have players we are aware of and ones we are talking about.

“There’s limitations in terms of finances. We can dominate in Scotland but we are not in the Premier League and getting the vast amounts of money teams down there get.

“The club is run in a sensible way. So there’s no worries but of course getting into the Champions League and what it can give you revenue wise is important for the club.”
