but insisted there is room for improvement – and he’s determined to get the best out of the playmaker next season.

He said: “That’s a personal issue I’ve discussed with Barrie.

“When I work with the players I can work two or three months with them but I always try to help them improve.

“When I’m saying something to one player, if he is going to stay here or even if he is going to go, I am trying to help him if he continues or not.

“If there’s something I believe he has to change it is to help him be a better player.

“So I am trying to help him independently if he is going to continue here or not.

“That’s what I want from my players and the relationship we have here.”

Caixinha insisted he’s not thinking about cashing in on McKay if a new deal can’t be struck.

He said: “I just want players here that are keen to come or are keen to continue here and are because of the passion they feel for the club and the passion they have to win for the club. Otherwise if they are thinking about a contract this is not going to be their place.”

Caixinha is searching for stars for next season but he reckons the return of Jordan Rossiter will be like a new arrival.

The former Liverpool kid has been out since August with a back problem but joined up with the first-team squad for training on Monday.

Caixinha said: “Now that he’s back with the other players it allows him to get the confidence levels up.

“It will be like a new signing. With Jordan, Niko Kranjcar and even Lee Wallace we will restart the next season clean.”
