THE BBC have apologised after a DJ based a sick radio quiz on child killer Ian Brady.

BBC Radio Leeds’ Nathan Turvey asked listeners to guess the identity of a mystery person based on four songs.

Then he played Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer, The Brady Bunch theme song, Mott the Hoople’s All the Young Dudes and The Smiths’ Suffer Little Children – written in memory of Brady’s victims.

After playing the tracks, Turvey said: “They were four songs all linked to someone in the news this week, all you’ve got to do is work out who it is.”

A BBC spokesman said: “This was clearly unacceptable and we apologise.”

Glasgow-born Brady, 79, died last week after spending half a century in prison for murders he committed with Myra Hindley.

Many listeners took to Twitter to slam the competition.

Dave Porter said: “Such a terrible lack of judgment. You should never be on radio again.”

Craig Hannington added: “Psycho Killer and Brady Bunch. At what point was that a great competition idea?”

It has been reported Brady asked to be cremated in Glasgow, with his ashes scattered on the Clyde. The city’s council say they will refuse any request for him to be cremated in the area.

Brady and Hindley were jailed for life for killing of John Kilbride, 12, Lesley Ann Downey, 10, and Edward Evans, 17, in the 60s.

They also murdered Pauline Reade, 16, and Keith Bennett, 12.
