BBC1, 9pm A DEADLY disease with no known cure – since the beginning of the HIV virus epidemic, more than 70million people have been infected, with half of those dying.

And it’s still a problem in the UK, with more than 6000 new infections recorded every year.

In this insightful documentar­y, Dr Chris van Tulleken, who spends most of his time in a lab studying the virus, gives us an easy-to-digest biology lesson, while also looking at the latest research and treatments. SURVIVOR Dr Chris van Tulleken meets Lizzie He meets people living with HIV, including Lizzie Jordan, 35, who was diagnosed 10 years ago after her partner Benji died suddenly.

“He came home complainin­g about what he thought was a sinus infection,” she says.

“I thought he had man flu. And then three days later, he died.”

There’s an interview with Sir Elton John, who talks about the stigma and panic as HIV and AIDS first entered mainstream consciousn­ess in Britain in the mid-1980s.

“Everyone was petrified,” he says. “And a lot of people that I knew died very quickly.”

BBC1, 8pm KAT and Alfie have only been in Redwater for five minutes and there’s been a murder.

And it’s no coincidenc­e either – if only Kat, sorry Kathleen (Jessie Wallace), had kept her big trap shut.

So it seems her long-lost son is doe-eyed Dermott the vicar (Oisin Stack), who ruthlessly drowned Lance (Ian McElhinney) after finding out about his real mother.

But Kat has no idea her son is an unhinged murderer.
