Flood: It should be a one-off
WILLO FLOOD is determined to repay Dundee United fans for their financial support after calling for a rethink of the Premiership play-off final.
The Tannadice midfielder reckons SPFL bosses have made a mistake by not making the end-of-season thriller a one-off match.
He believes it would add to excitement as he prepares to face Hamilton over two legs – and praised Arabs who have snapped up their allocation for New Douglas Park on Sunday.
Flood said: “Fans and players prefer a one-off game. A winner takes all would be better for the whole of Scottish football.
“It costs our fans a lot of money to buy season tickets then they have to purchase tickets for home and away games in the play-offs.
“The backing we’ve got has been amazing.”
Flood, 32, was speaking ahead of tonight’s play-off final first leg which is live on BT Sport 1.
The former Aberdeen and Celtic star, now in his fourth spell at United, admits it has been a tough campaign.
He added: “It has probably been the hardest season, physically and mentally.
“If we can get the club back up if would be relief more than anything.
“United have a tradition as one of the biggest clubs in Scotland but we have a lot of hard work ahead to get back to where we belong.”
