PLANE CRASH BODIES FOUND
THE bodies of two men killed in a light aircraft crash have been found in the sea off Argyll.
The victims had not been identified last night. Wreckage from the plane was also recovered.
The grim discovery was made after a massive search involving the Tarbert, Southend and Campbeltown coastguard rescue teams, the Prestwick Coastguard helicopter, the Arran, Portpatrick and Tignabruich lifeboats and police.
The plane crashed two miles off Skipness, between Kintyre and Arran, on Thursday.
It had taken off from Oban Airport at 11.30am, bound for Carlisle, and the alarm was raised after it failed to arrive at 1pm. The search began after the crash was reported at around 3.45pm, and ended just before 8pm.
Police said: “Inquiries are ongoing to establish the identities of the two men on board and post-mortem examinations will be carried out in due course.”
A spokesman for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch have sent a team of experts to the scene.
