Monk guilty of belt attack on schoolboy

-

A MONK who belted a schoolboy so severely that his wrists bled was found guilty yesterday of assault.

Father Benedict Seed, 83, attacked the boy while teaching at Fort Augustus Abbey school in the Highlands between 1980 and 1982. He was fined £1000.

Seed, of Brora, Sutherland, was cleared on majority not proven verdicts of hitting one boy with a hockey stick and another with a spiked shoe, and caning or tawsing four others so hard that he drew blood.

He said outside Inverness Sheriff Court: “I never meant to hurt anyone.”

‘Fake cop’ arrests

Two men aged 20 and 21 have been arrested for allegedly claiming to be police officers in Glasgow. They are due at the city’s sheriff court on Tuesday.
