I’m the best pub player on the planet

-

GARY ANDERSON reckons he’ll retire happy as the pub player who won the lot.

Scotland’s darts hero is a double world champion and collected yet another major prize when he scooped a second successive World Series title in Dubai this week.

Hammering big rival Michael van Gerwen was another memorable evening in the 46-year-old’s career.

But Anderson said: “I’ve played some great players and I’ve never actually classed myself as a good darts player. I’ve always said that I’m a pub player.

“When I retire I can sit back and say I’ve played against guys like Phil Taylor and Michael and I’ve beaten them in the biggest events.

“Not a lot of people will be able to say that. The only problem is I’m getting old.

“Michael played well but it just shows you the old boy who doesn’t practise can still play well. You talk about all of these up-and-coming stars and boys who do nine hours of practice a day.

“That might work for you and it might not.

“I don’t do a lot of practice. I turned up in Dubai having not thrown a dart for six days and it worked out perfectly. It’s about being older and wiser.”
