We’re proud of our stars who shine for Scotland

-

AS Scotland gear up for this summer’s Euros in Holland the Forfar Farmington youngsters are well aware many senior stars began their careers at the club.

And head of youth John Diplexcito reckons the current crop of players should be taking inspiration from their predecessors.

He said: “I’m so proud to see players such as Kelly Clark, Lucy Graham and Amy Gallacher shine on the senior stage now – it’s a real encouragement to my youth teams.”

Farmington has a strong community culture where senior players coach youth teams and past players visit to help inspire the girls to keep playing.

There are 10 youth teams training and playing and all teams benefit from the investment from the SFA cashback scheme a few years ago.

Diplexcito said: “It means the girls can train and play on the same pitch as the senior squad.

“And it gives the future stars encouragement there is a pathway there to progress to the highest level.”

Farmington have a proud history of welcoming players of all ages and abilities to play football at a level and commitment to suit their needs. But the club often lose promising senior players to central-based teams as girls move for work or education.

Diplexcito added: “It is a downside but the benefit is youth teams see local girls playing for top teams such as Celtic and Hibs and international teams. What could be more inspiring?”
